ROSEY Athletic beat the weather – and their opponents – to kick off the new Sunday league in style.

The Hereford side's match against Burghill on the King George Playing Fields was one of only two games to be played and saw the home side end up as the 8-2 winners.

Striker Will Ferriday scored a hat-trick, while Oliver Meadows netted twice.

The other goals were scored by Charlie Scott, Ryan Trattell and James Powell, with Ryan Bounds and Jakes Cleves netting for Burghill.

The game was switched from Rosey Athletic's usual home at the Leisure Centre because of the Ladies' Day event at Hereford Racecourse but, unlike the ground at Holmer, the riverside pitches defrosted in time.

The match signalled the start of the new Sunday Spring league and placed Rosey at the top of the B league.

Bromyard Downs were the only other home side to get their game on but went down 5-2 to Vaga in the Sunday Spring A division.

The Hereford side continued where they had left off in the Sunday Central to maintain their 100% record.
