KNIGHTON Town were just two minutes away from being crowned Spar Mid Wales League First Division champions.

With the Robins leading 2-1 at home against Llanrhaeadr and rivals Penrhyncoch being held 0-0 by Hay St Mary's, the title was heading to Knighton. But Penrhyncoch captain Owain Jones headed a late winner to give his side a 1-0 victory and snatch the championship for Garri Lewis’ side.

Knighton had done all they could, trailing to a Wayne Austin goal at half-time before Adam Worton’s side hit back with two goals in three minutes through Sam Williams .

Radnor Valley are celebrating though following back-to-back promotions.

Radnor triumphed 2-1 at Borth United in their Division Two match, with Jack Price grabbing a late winner after Joey Price’s opener had been cancelled out. Rhayader Town Reserves were crowned Watson Financial Mid Wales League (South) Champions last Wednesday night following a 2-2 draw with Knighton Town Reserves.

And Knighton look set to take the runners-up spot after Max Lewis and Marc Wozencraft netted in a 2-2 draw against Talgarth Town on Saturday. Rivals Brecon FC are facing a three point deduction after failing to raise a side against Carno Reserves.
