THE county Football Association is to consider the dissolution of the Herefordshire Football League.

An email, sent out to sides playing in Herefordshire football, explains that an "extraordinary meeting of the Herefordshire Football League" (HFL) has been called to discuss the plans.

The message suggests that a proposed new Herefordshire Football Association County League will take the place of the HFL.

Attendance of the meeting on February 8 is mandatory, clubs have been told, and non-attendance will incur a fine of £50.

The message sent out today states that Jim Lambert, the chief executive of the Herefordshire Football Association, will present a motion to “that the dissolution of ‘the Herefordshire Football League’ will take place following the conclusion of the 2015-2016 season".

"The Management Committee will be responsible for the winding up of the assets and liabilities of the Competition," the email reads.

"Any surplus assets will be transferred to a specific holding account within the County Football Association from which allocations are made as determined by the Special General Meeting."

Eleven-a-side football has been on a steady decline for a number of years, with the amount of sides playing on Saturdays and Sunday dropping each season.

There are currently three divisions on a Saturday and two on a Sunday - less than half the number from 20 years ago.

We hope to bring more on this story in Thursday's Hereford Times.
