WESTFIELDS manager Sean Edwards says his team have some serious decisions to make to get themselves out of trouble.

The allpay.park side are just two points above the bottom three in the Midland Football League Premier Division, but Coventry Sphinx, who occupy the last relegation place, have two games in hand.

Since beating Loughborough University 4-0 last month, Westfields have lost their last four games and face a crucial couple of games before going to Edgar Street to face city rivals Hereford on Boxing Day.

First up is a trip to Boldmere St Michaels, who have won their last three games, this Saturday, before they host bottom side Continental Star next weekend.

"We are in trouble, there's no doubt about it and are in a situation where we have to sink or swim," said Edwards.

"The players and myself have got some serious decisions to make, because we have got good players that can get us out of trouble.

"It's annoying because I still believe the squad is as good as I have had for years, we just need everyone fit and firing.

"But we need to stop conceding goals and find a way of scoring them."

Westfields' latest defeat was a 3-0 reverse against high-fliers Alvechurch on Tuesday night.

Edwards felt his side started well, but conceded three poor goals.

"At 1-0 at half-time, I thought, with the wind behind us, we would go at them, but then conceded a goal after 27 seconds," he said.

"It was another soft goal, which has been the story of our season so far.

"We huffed and puffed but players who are good on the ball didn't create anything and we didn't play as a team, which I take responsibility for as manager."

Aidan Thomas, who played on the left-hand side of midfield, says the possibility of relegation has not been talked about in the dressing room, but results need to improve drastically.

"We're going to try and stay clear of that for as long as we can, but we need to get ourselves out of that and hopefully it doesn't come down to that towards the end of the season," said Thomas.

"We just can't seem to get ourselves out of this rut that we're in and not performing as we should as a squad.

"It was a nothing game with long ball after long ball from both teams.

"Neither team came to play football and it's difficult for a striker to get involves in those sort of games with balls coming over your head every two seconds.

"We need to get back to basics and try and perform again because it's just not working at the minute."

Thomas returned to the side after three months out with a hamstring injury.

"I got 15 minutes on Saturday and it was a nice to get a start on Tuesday," he said.

Alvechurch took the lead after 26 minutes when Josh March fired home following a corner before the away side doubled their advantage through Jordan Nadat at the start of the second half.

The win was sealed in stoppage time through Karl Edwards.

Last Saturday, Westfields lost 2-1 at home to Coleshill Town.

Reece Leak put Coleshill ahead after 57 minutes before Ben Miller equalised six minutes later.

Westfields then hit the woodwork three times through Craig Jones, Danny Hill and Sam Gwynne before Coleshill went back in front through Ricardo Reid.
