A SEETHING Sean Edwards said the match officials were not good enough to manage Tuesday night's Midland Football League Cup derby against Hereford.

Edwards said his side were denied a clear penalty in the first half when the score was 1-0 to Westfields, while he believed Hereford should have received more bookings than they did. Hereford went on to win the game 4-1.

"It was a clear penalty on any other pitch with any other referee," said Edwards, who also felt there was a foul leading up to Hereford's second goal, while Pablo Haysham may have been offside for the third.

"It's a push in the back, everyone can see it.

"If it's 2-0, it's a different game.

"Then we give a soft goal away and in the second half and with young players and tired legs, it was always going to be tough.

"But if you've got three officials that aren't good enough to perform at this level, then we're not going to have a chance.

"Were we the only ones tackling?

"I thought there were two teams out there but only one team were getting decisions.

"It was a clear penalty, he says he's seen it, but he decided not to give it, yet for a push we've given, it's a foul or a booking."

Edwards added he agreed with all the bookings that were handed out, but felt his side were hard done by.

"They're all bookings, I haven't got a problem with that, but lets have it both ways.

"Anthony Robbins has made six fouls and gets spoken to every time.

"No disrespect to Anthony Robbins, but Cussy [Jamie Cuss] makes one foul, Jonah [Craig Jones] makes one foul and they're bookings.

"I don't deny that they're bookings, but if we're going to come here and have a game, lets have a proper game of football.

"Let's have a game, that's a local derby, with proper officials that can handle a local derby like that."

Edwards felt his team dominated the first half and performed well on the night.

"We've done really well with the way we've performed and conducted ourselves," he said.

"First half, I think we should have been 3-0 up at half time and that would have been a fair reflection.

"Second half, yeah they've had a lot of possession and are bringing on quality, whereas we're bringing on young lads who are just making their mark at this level."

Westfields go to Northern Counties East League Premier Division side Cleethorpes Town this Saturday in the first round of the FA Vase.

"Hopefully we'll have Sam Gwynne and Mike Tambling back for that game and a couple of extra bodies, which we probably need," added Edwards.

Westfields opened the scoring in the 10th minute thanks to a great strike by centre-back Jamie Saunston.

The away side were very comfortable in the first 30 minutes, but Hereford were level when Solomon Wheatley's low cross from the left somehow squirmed under the body of Matt Gwynne. The Westfields goalkeeper did redeem himself shortly before the break with a fantastic finger-tip save to deny Ben Miller before Hereford took the lead in the 54th minute. John Mills was sent clean through and, after cutting inside, fired an unstoppable shot past Gwynne.

The goal clearly rejuvenated Hereford, with the Bulls testing Gwynne on a number of occasions.

They finally sealed the game at the death when Haysham slid the ball past Gwynne after being set up by Mills.

Haysham then added a second with a downward header from Rob Purdie's cross to make the final score 4-1.
