BROCKHAMPTON were forced to play second fiddle to powerful Birmingham and District League Premier Division visitors Shrewsbury in a crushing 160-run defeat.

The Parks proved to the liking of former Shropshire skipper Ed Foster (105) and Will Parton (97) as they added a stunning 204 for Shrewsbury’s second wicket.

Jack Aldous-Fountain claimed a catch off his own bowling to remove Parton three runs short of his hundred but Tom Cox (48 off 39 balls) and Rob Foster (44 off 28 balls) maintained the momentum.

High-flying Shrewsbury finally declared on 379-6 off 54 overs, and Brockhampton, saddled with a huge run chase, soon found themselves on 45-3.

Joe Crichard hit 38 and Nicholas Powell struck 11 fours and two sixes in making 77 off only 68 balls but the task was always beyond Brock, and they were bowled out for 219 in the 51st over.

Eastnor suffered a similar fate in Division Two as host club Wombourne rattled up an imposing 361-5 in 55 overs on the back of a big century from Kuldeep Diwan (17 fours and eight sixes in his 151), 90 from David Hemming and 73 from Daniel Vernon.

Dave Waters ensured Eastnor gave a decent account of themselves in reply with 101 (15 fours) but once he was dismissed by Hemming (5-61) at 151-6, the end came quickly at 157 all out.
