BURGHILL Valley Golf Club held a successful Mixed Greensomes Open.

A total of 120 entries were cast, with clubs competing from as far as Leicestershire and Berkshire.

Winners of the best gross came from Brecon Golf Club for the third year running, with Maureen Griffiths and Mike Maddock coming top with a gross stableford score of 31 points.

Best net was won by Jane Swan and Ron Allen of BVGC with 40 points on countback, with fellow BVGC members Vicky and Mark Howells coming second.

In third were Pauline and Martin Crockett, also of BVGC, and Dean and Jacqui Powell were fourth.

Best visitors not in the prizes were Ann and Ian Hamilton of Bransford Golf Club and nearest the pins were claimed by Tracy Higgins of Brecon for the ladies and Dean Powell of BVGC for the men.

Meanwhile, under-18 players from across the county will play at Burghill Valley on Saturday, June 20 as part of Junior Open competition.

Main sponsors are Audi, BMW and Hyundai, with Hereford Lions Club also on board.

Between 60 to 70 teenagers could compete in the event.

A stableford competition was also held for the Macmillan Spoon, with Mandy Haines coming out on top on count back.

The ladies section also recently held their spring social and prize giving, with 19 players participating in the stableford event.

Jill Evans won with 24 points, with Maureen Wilde finishing second on 33.
