BEN Davis is set to fly the flag for military charity Help for Heroes in the Michelin Clio Cup Series, a feeder to the British Touring Car Championship.

Davis, from Much Marcle, originally starred in the 130mph Superkarts series, but switched to car racing last year.

The 22-year-old made a stunning debut in the Clio Cup Series last August during a one-off appearance and will now embark on a planned full season under the RacingforHeroes banner with FML/

On his championship bow, Davis, who is studying to be a solicitor, finished seventh and fifth overall in the two races he contested, winning the rookie ;Race Sport Class' in each encounter.

Davis is finalising a full budget for the current campaign, which begins this weekend, but has full intentions in taking part.

"I am absolutely delighted and honoured to be involved with such a great cause in RacingforHeroes,", said Davis.

“This is an amazing opportunity to progress my racing career towards the BTCC package and to be doing so whilst supporting Help for Heroes is incredible.

"Peter Thorpe, the founder of RacingforHeroes approached me after Snetterton last year and we’ve been in contact since then.

"I will be directly be fundraising for the charity, raising awareness as well as hosting ex-servicemen and women at my race weekends and track-days.

“I aim to use 2015 to develop as a racing driver in all aspects, with a view to moving into the Renault UK Clio Cup in 2016.

"I’ve not been in the car since Snetterton, but I hope to be not too far off at Rockingham for the first round. It’s great to be back with Finesse Motorsport and having four cars in the garage is a big plus.

“We’re going to do the first couple of rounds and see where we are.

“We still haven’t secured funding for the whole season, but I know that my involvement with RacingforHeroes will be an excellent platform for companies to come on-board and I’m keen to talk to anyone who might be interested in partnering us as we support this great cause.”

Thorpe added: "We as a team are dedicated in developing young British talent and offering them a truly unrivalled platform to progress up the rungs of the motorsport ladder.

"We have been approached by countless drivers since our launch last year – testament to the opportunity we can offer.

"Although the RacingforHeroes Academy drivers do not get direct financial support, our drivers have the ability to add a third dimension to their own sponsorship quest – partnering the UK’s highest profile military charity, Help for Heroes. "This association to the charity and the ability to offer sponsors direct access to the BTCC RacingforHeroes team offers an edge to attract financial investment to compete.

"Ben has the “natural winning ability” to be a future star, and I hope with our support he can truly take the fight to the front of the grid and battle for P1 in 2015."
