RISING badminton players from across the country once again competed at Hereford Academy in a National Bronze competition.

After the success of the under-15s last month, it was the turn of the under-13s last Saturday.

It was a very successful day for Ledbury's Chad Warren, who is a member of Herefordshire Badminton Academy.

His high England singles ranking meant he could not compete in the Boy's Singles event, but he did star in the Boy's Doubles alongside Stephen Jong from Salop.

The pair were narrowly beaten in the final by Dorset's Jake and Zac Prentice.

But Chad made up for it by winning the Mixed event with Worcestershire's Beth Hambling.

The duo dominated Harry Dyer and Cara Collins, who made the long trip from Cornwall.

They did not let them settle and gave a mature display to come out convincing 21-16 winners.

The winners of the boy's and girls' singles were Alex Jackson (Hampshire) and Kelly Yip (Gwent) respectively.

"I see Chad twice a week at our training sessions but to watch a display like that is so impressive," said Herefordshire Badminton Academy's Les Butts.

"The quality on show in the semi and this final rivalled that of many games seen in the local adult league”

Other Herefordshire competitors who took part include Hattie and Tara Hastings, Victoria Beavan, Joe Howells, Jake Harding, and Beren and Oliver Griffiths.
