ROWER Morgan Baynham-Williams was crowned Herefordshire Sportsman of the Year for the second successive year last night.

The Ross oarsman, who won the Hereford Times’ Ted Woodriffe Award in 2012, coxed the Great Britain Under-23 Women’s Eight to silver in the World Championships

“It’s always really exciting to win an award, especially from your own county,” said Baynham-Williams, who is pushing towards being selected for the 2016 Rio Olympics.

Baynham-Williams joined the esteemed Leander Rowing Club last year and saw her team pipped by the USA by just three feet in the Henley Royal Regatta.

She shares this year’s award with world female quadrathlon champion Sharon Colley.

Colley, from Hereford, beat German athlete Lisa Hirschfelder to win the women’s race that involves swimming, kayaking, cycling and running.

Fellow Herefordian Steve King made it a double success for quadrathlon as he was named joint winner of the 2014 Sportsman of the Year title.

King is World Male Quadrathlon champion and covered 54.5km in winning his title in the four discipline event. He shares his award with Ian Rivers, who successfully completed the 2014 Arch to Arch Challenge. The event involved running from Marble Arch to Dover, a cross Channel swim and a 118 mile cycle race to Arc de Triumph in Pairs. Coach of the year for the second successive year is Anna Robertson who has been responsible for the development of cricket for girls in the county.

Robertson has also been instrumental in encouraging the ‘back to netball’ initiative and assisted with Community Games events in Hereford Receiving a 'highly commended' award was Phil Moore for introducing Tchoukball to the county and the creation of the first locally based competitive club. City of Swimming Club's Alex Dallimore was also highly commended for his role in developing the club which has seen swimmers rising to national and regional levels and led to him being lead coach of the England Talent programme.
