ERICA Rogers grabbed a hat-trick as Hereford Ladies smashed Marlborough 5-2 in West Women's Hockey League Premier Division 2A.

Goalkeeper Simone Quinn returned from injury and proved to be vital to the team's success, with a number of match-winning saves.

Hereford got an early break when Saska Ingham opened the scoring following some lovely skills.

Captain Rogers then slotted away the first short corner with a drag-flick pinging in off the cross bar.

Great build-up play from Amy Wilkins and Tess Langford led to another Ingham goal at the far post to make it 3-0.

However, Hereford were caught napping which led to Marlborough to score two goals in quick succession .

Meg Watkins put in a stirling performance at left-back which meant Hereford could go forward again.

Rogers was on hand to finish off Langford's fine pass to make it 4-2 before scoring a fine individual goal to complete her hat-trick.

Hereford 2nd continued their improving form with a well-earned draw at Newent in Severn Division 1.

Ali Taft and Di Feely combined well for Hereford's first half goal before Newent equalised before half-time.

The second half was a hard battle for Hereford who defended stoutly with Newent attacking strongly.

Deri Horan, Hayley Longstaff, Clare Annett and Alice Steel worked well as the defensive team protecting Mel Bryans in goal.

Elsewhere in the league, Colwall and Malvern drew 1-1 with East Gloucestershire.

Despite Becky Lewis making driving runs down the right hand side, East Gloucestershire took the lead with a well-time shot into the corner.

Sammie Shail went on one of her trademark runs, beating four defenders, before slotting the ball under the keeper.

East Gloucestershire pressed forward creating many attacks of their own, but the experienced Colwall defence kept them at bay.

Shail scored her second with some great link up play with Katie Smith before completing her hat-trick.

Colwall and Malvern 2nd's game was called off due to a frozen pitch.

Meanwhile, Leominster lost 3-2 to Westberries in the North Division.
