JAMIE Cuss hit a wonder-goal as Westfields stunned Midland Premier League leaders Long Eaton United.

Cuss latched onto a long ball down the field to loft the ball over the head of the advancing goalkeeper.

The win leaves Sean Edwards’ men 10th in the league table going into this Saturday’s trip to Heath Hayes. Long Eaton provided early pressure at the Fields back four and saw a penalty appeal waved away when James Febery upended a player on the edge of the box.

Moments later, Jermaine Palmer went through on goal, but Westfields goalkeeper Matt Gwynne was equal to the task and produced a fine save.

Westfields then took the lead in the 33rd through Cuss’ moment of ingenuity before he dragged an effort wide. Matt Reeve then saw his shot saved by Long Eaton’s Cameron Mason after the break before some great play by Cuss saw the ball played across to Marcus Palmer.

His touch set up Tom Boyle, but the former Ledbury man ballooned his effort over the bar from just four yards out.

With Westfields attempting to slow down play, Long Eaton became agitated.

Their frustration boiled over three minutes from time when Ross Parker was sent off for a second yellow card following a bad tackle on Dean Lee.

Tuesday 's match between Westfields and Walsall Wood at allpay.park was postponed due to a waterlogged pitch.
