HEREFORD bowler Rob Weale has completed the rare feat of obtaining a full set of national titles at the Welsh National Bowling Championships at Llandrindod Wells.
Weale had previously won the singles, the pairs with his brother David and the fours in a quartet with David, Stuart and Brian Weale on various occasions since 2000 but had never been successful in the triples.
But at this year's championship, the omission was rectified and Weale, in partnership with brother David and Dale Gorman, carried off the triples title for Presteigne.
The trio were up against a triple from Beaufort in Monmouthshire and fell 4-3 behind after four ends.
But, with the final bowl of the fifth leg, Rob Weale showed his international class to take out the nearest Beaufort bowl to secure a five for his team.
Weale came to the fore again on the 14th end when, with Presteigne trailing 12-11, he shot a four to re-establish a clear lead.
Presteigne were never bettered after that and went on to claim a 20-13 victory after the designated 18 ends.
