HEREFORD United advisor Andy Lonsdale believes a sustainable club will be a huge benefit for everyone involved.

Lonsdale spoke about the traumatic day for the fans when United were expelled from the Conference for the non-payment of debts.

He said that United – in their dire financial position – would not have had a viable future competing in the Conference for another season.

United have been accepted in the Southern League Premier Division and, as yet, have still not paid all outstanding money to their football creditors.

Lonsdale told the Hereford Times yesterday: “The reason why we didn’t go into the Conference Premier was because the Conference imposed a bond for £350,000.

“What would the people of Hereford rather have – a £350,000 bond sitting in the Conference account – or the club being sustainable?”
