Saul Thomas Narrowly Misses Out on Leagues Top Player

First published in Sport

WITH more than 20 goals this season, striker Saul Thomas has been in impressive form for Wellington this year and has been voted man of the match an impressive 14 times from just 33 games.

Unfortunately for Thomas, he was narrowly pipped to the title by the hot-shot from last Saturdays opponents Ellesmere Rangers, former Shrewsbury Town and AFC Telford striker Marco Adaggio, by a solitary vote.

“I’m not disappointed at all, you saw today just how good a player he is so to be just one behind is fantastic," he said. "The lad has got some real pedigree behind him so it’s been good to run him so close”.

Thomas, who has been out injured for the last six games of the season, has shouldered the responsibility of firing his side to a top 10 finish this season but says it’s his team mates who should take most of the credit.

“I’ve not really changed a lot in my game from previous seasons, I have played on the wing in the past but centre forward is definitely where I prefer to play and maybe that’s showed this season," he said.

"The boys have been fantastic though, and with the amount of chances they’ve given me this year it’s only right that I put a few of them away.”
