Champion Jenkins eyes up ring rival
12:47am Sunday 9th March 2014 in Sport
HEREFORD’S champion boxer Lee Jenkins was a special guest at ring-side and enjoyed the action.
The 24-year-old was interested to see England’s Dan Woledge, who recorded a unanimous win over Morgan Jones in the eighth contest of the night.
Woledge inflicted the only standing eight-count of the evening on Jones and, potentially, Jenkins could meet the English star in this season’s ABA Championships.
Jenkins, representing the University of Brighton, has retained a BUCS Boxing Championship title.
He still has a pin in a femur after a horror fall last year from a cliff face in Symonds Yat.
“I have had a fantastic year – six fights and six wins,” said Jenkins.
“I have enjoyed every moment of it – and it’s been a great start.
"To retain that title after the last 12 months has been great.
“I have still got a pin in my femur but mentally I feel great and physically I am fitter than I have ever been.”
Jenkins is now preparing for this season’s ABA Championships and his first open elite fight is this weekend.
“I have two warm-up fights for the ABA Championships which start in April," he said.
“I have been looking at the competition and Dan Woledge should be in the ABAs. He is a bit younger and a lot more experienced and I have seen the level I need to be at.
“It’s the will that wins – it’s not a fight of skills – it’s a fight of will.
“I can’t believe I am fine and boxing again - I thank god for that.”
