Improved performance but Westside defeated by Bournville

WESTSIDE remain at the foot of the West Midlands Netball League Division Two table but another much-improved performance can give them added confidence for the games to come.

Against third-placed Bournville, Westside began with GS - Georgi Wood, GA - Harriet Rimmer, WA - Kate Bishop, C - Anna Mulderrig, WD - Rebecca Griffin, GD - Kayleigh Mumford and GK - Steph Snowzell and made a strong start.

Rimmer and Wood worked the circle well, enabling Bishop to feed the shooters successfully in good shooting positions as they ended the first quarter at 10 all. Westside carried on their good form throughout the second quarter and increasing pressure from the defensive duo of Mumford and Snowzell allowed many turnover opportunities which they converted to edge in front 18-17 at the interval.

Bournville brought on a tall and experienced keeper in an attempt to apply more pressure to Westside's shootersand the ploy worked with the Midlanders going 28-23 ahead at three-quarter time.

Mulderrig and Wood swapped at centre and shooter in a bid to allow more movement in the shooting circle but the experienced keeper soon switched on to the change and regained her dominance in the circle.

Some excellent individual interceptions from Griffin enabled more opportunities, together with the pressure from player-of-the-match Snowzell at keeper, but Westside really struggled to get around the keeper at the other end, allowing Bourneville to come away winners with a final score of 39-30.
