Wellington 2 Dudley Sports 2.

WELLINGTON took advantage of some of their rivals being on FA Cup duty to move to the top of the West Midlands League Premier Division.

“It’s a very rewarding feeling,” said the villagers’ new boss Dave Priday. “We have deserved the points we have got and you can only play what’s in front of you.”

After two successive away wins, Wellington might have expected to win their first home outing of the season.

But Priday acknowledged that a draw was a fair result.

“The wind had a major influence on the game,” he said.

“We went in 2-0 down at the break - their first goal was a corner which was carried into the net by a gust of wind but their second was an extremely well-worked goal.

“But Aaron Morgan had a golden opportunity for us before their first goal and then Matt Norton put one wide with only the keeper to beat.”

After the break, Wellington clawed back with a Dave Price goal and finally drew level with a last-minute equaliser from Saul Thomas.

“It was pleasing the way they dug themselves out of a 2-0 deficit and we missed a couple of sitters,” said Priday. “But they had a great chance at 2-1 so a draw was a fair result.”

Bromyard notched their second win in three games when they inflicted a 1-0 defeat on Shifnal Town, the Shropshire side’s first reverse of the season after two victories. Devon Smith was the goal hero for the Delahay Meadow side.
