COLWALL are still on track for a return to the top-flight in the Worcestershire League after a comprehensive victory over Division Two basement club Tenbury.

The Malvern Hills side remain in second place in the table after their overwhelming 202-run victory over the strugglers.

Tom Coleman’s 95, backed up by steady scoring down the order, under-pinned Colwall’s 268-9.

And Tenbury had little in response, slumping to just 66 all out. Jacob Rodgers (3-15) was the most successful bowler. In Division One, Bromyard’s scorching run of form continued with a six-wicket victory over Pershore. Will Yarnold (4-49) and Dinusha Fernando (2-32) were the pick of the attack as the home side were dismissed for 190.

Ashley Bullock (69 not out) and Ryan Tongue (57) led the response with an opening stand of 109 and Fernando hastened the victory charge with a quickfire 41 off just 23 balls.

Title-chasing Astwood Bank carried too much firepower for Burghill and Tillington who were beaten by 113 runs thanks, in the main, to a remarkable spell by Bank’s Andrzej Jagielski.

The second-change bowler picked up 9-35 and was only denied the chance of a rare all-10 by a run-out.

Ross made Division Three pacemakers Lye battle all the way before they achieved a three-wicket success.

Harry Porter (40) and James Tiffen (30) were the principal contributors to the Ross total of 159-8 from their 50 overs, but the leaders overtook the total with almost 13 overs to spare. Bartestree scored steadily down the order in their Division Four clash at Kidderminster Victoria, reaching 207-9 from their allotted 50 overs.

Tight bowling by Luke Sparrow (4-67) and Matt Ashcroft (3-44) ensured a winning draw for the Herefordshire club with their hosts falling 11 short of victory with two wickets in hand.

Canon Frome’s high-scoring batsman again prospered in their 108-run Division Six triumph over Highley. This time, it was Andy Rogers who led the way with 129 while one of the previous week’s centurions, Nicko Evans, starred with the ball, returning 5-44.

In the second Xl competition, Nick Panniers (126) and Ben Cooke (88) were both in the runs for Colwall who must have regretted their decision to declare with four overs of their innings still remaining.

Droitwich Spa overhauled their total of 292-8 at the end of the second of their extra overs.
