BRITISH Alpine skier Colin Tucker is flying high in the International Ski Federation (FIS) World Masters Cup.

The 66-year-old, who lives near Mordiford, is second in official masters standings.

He is taking to the slopes in Maribor, Slovenia, tomorrow night (Friday) to race in the Giant Slalom and then in the Slalom on Saturday.

Hereford-born-and-bred Tucker climbed the standings after finishing second in the slalom event at the Masters in Switzerland earlier this month.

Previously, he had scored his best seed points for five years in Cerkno, Slovenia, to finish 22nd overall in the fastest times across all the age groups.

He has been competing in the Masters section for 12 years and is a member of the Kandahar club.

“I am in the mountains for around six months of the year,” said Tucker, whose 21-year-old son, William, is also a talented skier.

“I took up skiing fairly late on in life,” he said. “I got interested in the sport after taking William to skiing events.

“I am the only person from Britain who is competing in the World Masters Cup.”

He added: “It’s fairly unusual to be an Alpine skier from a country without mountains - it’s something you don’t see very often.”
