IT was all change at Hereford Rowing Club's annual meeting as Serena Crump ended her club captaincy after two years.

The successes achieved by the club over the past two years have been considerable, especially from the junior squad, and the new captain, Jim Mitchell, hopes to emulate this. He will be supported by his sub-captains, Nikki Marriott and Adrian Tully.

The end of Crump's captaincy was also marked by the club dinner and dance, at which the awards for the past season were presented.

Club performer of the year went to Alex Deutsch. He made the long trip to Strathclyde with his doubles partner Sean Blake to compete in the national championships and was rewarded with a bronze medal. He has also won at smaller regattas in the doubles and the singles, and has attended a training camp aimed at developing juniors for the national squad.

Club person of the year was Nikki Marriott. Having only started rowing recently, she has thrown herself into club life. Her achievements this year include organising the rowing club spring ball and the fun regatta.

Most improved junior of the year went to Jamie Coombes. He is an example of the improving junior squad and testament to the hard work that Helen Phillips, Sue Bissell, and other dedicated parents contributed.

Most improved senior of the year was awarded to Vas Vlachynsky, who was part of the men's eight coached by Mike Dolloway. The eight started the season as novices, but were promoted to senior three status after wins at Bewdley, Stourport and Ross.
