A FORMER BBC Hereford and Worcester presenter sparked outrage after running a "guess the headline" competition about twisted child serial killer Ian Brady.

BBC Radio Leeds ran the feature during its Sunday breakfast programme, asking listeners to try and guess the famous person from a series of songs.

But listeners were angered when it became clear guest host Nathan Turvey had chosen serial killer Brady.

The BBC has apologised.

Mr Turvey, who formerly worked at BBC Hereford and Worcester, was standing in for Radio Leeds' regular Sunday presenter, played Mott The Hoople's All The Young Dudes and The Brady Bunch theme song, followed by The Smiths' Suffer Little Children, which was written in memory of the Moors murders

The last song played was The Talking Heads' Psycho Killer.

The clip is hosted on Radiofail, a website featuring mistakes by DJs.

After playing the tracks, Mr Turvey can he heard saying: "They were four songs all linked to someone in the news this week, all you've got to do is work out who it is."

Twitter users were left shocked by the broadcast.

Stuart Petch branded it "crass to the max", writing: "Think that's funny? You're kidding me?”

Mr P said: “Please tell me that this isn’t genuine.”

A BBC spokesman said: "This was clearly unacceptable and we apologise."

Child-killer Brady, aged 79, who died last week, tortured and murdered five children on Saddleworth Moor, near Manchester, in the early 60s with accomplice Myra Hindley.
