DETECTIVES have been granted more time to question the man at the centre of the Blackheath fire and knife drama.
The man remains in police custody following the incident at around midday yesterday (May 27) which saw a fire started in the toilets of Sainsbury’s superstore before the suspect fled the scene carrying a knife.
The incident forced the shut down of the town centre with the supermarket and many surrounding streets closed for several hours.
Officers arrested the man at the scene and took him in as investigations were carried out. They were granted a further seven hours earlier today to carry on questioning him until tonight.
Following the arrest, police said they were not sure what the suspect’s motives were but they weren’t believed to be terror related.
