TABLE TOP SALE BIG SUCCESS - A table top sale organised by Pauline Vogel, Ann Taylor, Kirsty Dewhirst, Mandy Evans, Edith Wood and Ness Gibbons, who are all staff at Knighton Primary School, raised £300. The money was split between a breast cancer awareness charity and the school.

CHARITY SWIM - Carole Oliver and Pam Payne did a charity swim to raise money for the Charles Renton Unit staff as a thank you for the treatment given to their friend Sandra Broome, from Knighton. They collected £1,060 in sponsorship money. The two women completed the swim in under an hour breaking their own personal best times.

UNPLUGGED FOR THE KNIGHTON MUSIC FESTIVAL - A gig called Unplugged was held at The Baron of Beef, Bucknell, to help raise awareness of and money for the Knighton music festival to be held in August. All the performers were students of Dave Luke, who lives in Presteigne. The music festival will provide further performing opportunities for many of the youngsters who performed at Bucknell.

COMMUNITY CENTRE CHRISTMAS FAIR - There will be a Christmas fair at Knighton Community Centre on Saturday from 10am to 4pm. The cafe will stay open till 5.30pm for those wanting to see the lights turned on.

Everyone is asked to help the community centre by finding some time to pop into the fair.

KNIGHTON FOOTBALL CLUB BINGO - The annual Christmas bingo will take place at the clubhouse on Monday, December 7. Eyes down 7.30pm.

COMMUNITY SUPPORT COFFEE MORNING - Knighton and District Community Support project will be holding a Christmas coffee morning at the community centre, Knighton, on Wednesday, December 9, from 10.30am to noon. There will be tables selling goods to raise money for local charities and the community support project.

CHRISTMAS LIGHTS SWITCH-ON - The Christmas lights switch-on event in Knighton will start with a fancy dress competition at 5.30pm at the clock tower followed by the official lights switch-on at 6.00pm. Santa will arrive with gifts for the children, Knighton town silver band will play festive music and choirs from Knighton, Beguildy and Whitton Primary school will sing. There will be free mince pies and punch during the evening.

FAIRTRADE CLOTHES SHOW - The Fairtrade Clothes Show held in Knighton last weekend was a great success.

Clothes and accessories were supplied by The Tower House Gallery, Knighton, The Rowan Tree, Presteigne and Bishopstone Trading. This successful event means that clothes producers in the developing world will have received a fair and just price for their goods and the profits from this event were donated locally to the Knighton First Responders.

KNIGHTON PACT MEETING - At the latest Knighton PACT meeting, PC Bill Cowan reported that the two priorities identified at the last meeting, illegal parking and anti-social behaviour, had been tackled. Feedback at the meeting gave a positive response. It was agreed that the two priorities remain in place.

The next meeting will be on Thursday, February 4, at 7pm in the church hall, Knighton.

JOB CLUB - The club meets at the library every Wednesday from 10.30am to 11.30am. People are encouraged to come along and share job hunting and career experiences and encourage each other in the quest for a new job. Call Suzy Davies on 07762 665552.

WHIST DRIVE - The next whist drive will be on December 10. This will be the Christmas whist drive starting at 7.30pm in the bowling clubhouse.

DOCTORS SURGERY CLOSED - Wylcwm Street doctors surgery will be closed for staff training from Tuesday, December 8, at 1pm, and reopen on Wednesday, December 9, at 8am. For emergencies during these times, call 0844 406 8888 or call the surgery on 01547 528523 and you will be given a number to call.

METHODIST CHURCH CHRISTMAS FAIR - Knighton Methodist Church members will be holding a Christmas fair in the church on Saturday from 10.30am until 12.30pm. Admission will be 20p and there will be various stalls and refreshments available.

MACMILLAN CHRISTMAS FAIR - At the recent Knighton Macmillan Cancer Support group Christmas fair, £900 was made.
