A HEREFORD nightclub is ready to get the party started after getting a change of licence.

Mamma Jamma’s in West Street has won permission to play live music to 11.30pm every day of the week.

But councillors were also party poopers, as they rejected plans for later opening hours for dancing and playing music.

Designated premises supervisor Jonathan Jones wanted to extend the venue’s hours to compete with other city nightclubs.

His premises licence restricted dancing to Wednesday, Friday and Saturday evenings and allowed live music one day a week.

Licence changes to allow daily live music and dancing were approved by the regulatory sub-committee on Monday.

Mr Jones also wanted to sell alcohol and play music until 3am from Sunday to Thursday and 4am on Fridays and Saturdays.

But those plans were rejected, as councillors insisted 1.30am and 2.30am were late enough for revellers and nearby residents.

Hereford City Council and eight nearby residents opposed the bid, saying it would ruin sleep and cause anti-social behaviour.

One West Street landlord said her tenants were constantly complaining about the late night noise from nearby premises.

She added that revellers often left urine and vomit in her porchway and drunkenly used the intercom to wake residents.

Jim Mooney, West Mercia Police licensing officer, said there had been no significant issues with crime or disorder at the club.

The applicant also withdrew plans to remove the sound limit at the pub following concerns from environmental health officers.

The venue must also install CCTV, have two registered bouncers on the door after midnight, and no entry after 1am.

The committee also agreed new conditions for the Jailhouse, including a quality CCTV system and a detailed incident log.
