A COMMUNITY hub for lovers of board  and video games has temporarily closed.

Geek Retreat was set up in Catherine Street during the COVID pandemic.

Featuring a comic-style mural and posters, the site was popular for many people.

It also served food, including burgers, fries, sweet snacks and ice-cream milkshakes.

However, a post on its Facebook page said that it had taken the very difficult decision to close.

OTHER NEWS:

"Thank you so much, all of you for your kind words and support," the post reads.

"Take care of yourselves, keep on gaming, and stay tuned for further updates."

The news has been met with sadness by many of its customers.

Alfray Allton said: "So sorry to hear this guys, I truly hope that you manage to sort things out in the future so the GR family can be reunited. All the best with the path you choose to travel."

Meanwhile, David Prior added: "Me and my family used to enjoy playing board games in the Geek Retreat. Such a shame to see it close. Hereford is already a very isolated/clicky place and seeing this place close doesn't help the city's reputation."

The hub on Catherine Street is unique- featuring a comic style mural and posters to create an inviting and striking space. Their menu is packed with burgers, fries, sweet snacks and their incredible ice-cream milkshakes. Whether you just want to grab a bite to eat, or attend one of Geek Retreat’s clubs or events, you are sure to receive a friendly welcome from the team.
