HAY-ON-Wye Bowling Club has submitted plans to build a new pavilion.

The club wish to build a facility similar to that currently in place, which they share with their neighbouring football club.

A supporting statement submitted to Brecon Beacons National Park planning authority said: "The football club shares the building, although the bowls club have their own social area. The building is relatively small considering the number of people using it, and the differences in type of use.

"Football often results in muddy footwear and clothes, which is then transferred to changing rooms and toilets, whereas bowlers normally maintain their smart appearance in white clothes.

"Additionally, the football club has a large junior section, whereas the bowls club, in contrast, has a mainly older membership. These differences led to conflict between the clubs, and a temporary solution in the form of a portable building was installed, to serve as the bowls club changing room."

A building similar to the existing pavilion in terms of scale is proposed. Materials are also similar, being timber boarding walls and box-profile sheeting for the roof.

The supporting statement added: "Although the design is similar, it is symmetrical and more pleasing aesthetically. The design is more appropriate for the site, as the new pavilion will face the entrance way rather than being viewed side-on.

"The large windows in the social area allow easy viewing of games, particularly valuable for those members who can only play for short periods due to mobility issues."
