CONDITIONAL approval has been given to the sea cadets to move their base in Ross-on-Wye.

The Ross and Monmouth Sea Cadets are currently based in Station Approach in the town but have been asked by Herefordshire Council to find a new base.

Secretary of the unit, Haydn Cullen-Jones, told Ross town council on Monday night that they would like to move to Homs Road car park, and had no other option at present.

Mr Cullen-Jones said: "We would have to close if we can't move to Homs Road car park. We haven't got anywhere to go."

The town council is currently in the process of taking on the car park as an asset from Herefordshire Council.

Proposals have been put forward to turn 40 percent of the car park into a large working yard for the town council.

But Mr Cullen-Jones said that there would still be space for the cadets to be based at the site.

There are 40 youngsters aged 11 to 18 in the cadet unit.

Councillors went into closed session to make a decision and gave the sea cadets conditional approval to move to the Homs Road car park.
