COUNCIL tax in Ross-on-Wye will go up for the next financial year.

At the Ross-on-Wye Town Council meeting on Monday night, councillors voted in favour of raising the precept from April.

The precept has been set at £353,235 which has risen from £315,711, which means an increase of 15p per week for a band D property.

This figure is just taking into account the parish's proportion of the council tax.

For the last tax year there was an increase of 27p per week for a band D property.

The decision was taken after looking at the commitments and anticipated expenditure for 2017/2018.

There was recognition for the need to set a realistic budget to ensure commitments to provide services and amenities could be met.

The town council has taken on a number of assets from Herefordshire Council.

All but one councillor, Chris Bartrum, voted in favour of the rise. Cllr Bartrum said he supported the budget, which is set at £399,758, but believed the council should take money from its reserves instead of raising the precept.
