A CARE home with facilities including a cinema and gym could be built on the site of Herefordshire Council’s former headquarters.

Prime Care Home Developments has applied for permission to demolish the buildings at Brockington, off Hafod Road in Hereford, and build a 70-bed care home with associated car parking and access.

Irwin Associates in consultation with other consultants on behalf of Dormy Care Communities, states the home would provide the population of Hereford, and the surrounding areas, with a ‘much needed modern facility designed to the highest standards’.

The application site would make up the northern two thirds of the overall site and each room would be en-suite.

Brockington was the council’s base following the authority’s formation in 1998 and, before that, was the HQ for the former South Herefordshire District Council.

Staff working there shifted to other council offices including Plough Lane and Blueschool House in the centre of Hereford and council meetings are now held at Hereford Shirehall.

If approved, the home would include a hair and beauty salon, cinema, activity lounge, private dining facility, café, bar and gym.
