I REFER to the call by Councillor Jim Kenyon (Hereford Times, February 9) that the post of Herefordshire Council chief executive could be scrapped to save other services from spending cuts.

I am not sure as to whether Chris Bull should go or whether he should be the only one to be considered.

I am sure there are a few more senior managers and directors that are earning extremely high salaries at a time when the general public are having to cutback so dramatically.

There have been numerous redundancies and many staff at the council who have had to take reductions in salaries or posts just to remain in employment.

Has anyone noticed the new posts that have been advertised with the council, for example head of service commissioning for adults with a salary of £50,000-£54,000? This would have kept at least two people in jobs which would I'm sure be of more benefit to the local economy and attempt to keep service delivery.

At a time when red tape and management hierarchies are supposed to be at a minimum, these posts are an insult to all those who have or maybe about to be made redundant.

MS PALMER, Hereford.
