A FEW weeks ago I had a mini-stroke which I mistook for something else. A visit to my surgery prompted very careful examination and swift action so I found myself in Hereford hospital's stroke ward.
Here I spent two days and nights undergoing tests and examinations from a bevy of specialist therapists. All these and the doctors and nurses filled me with admiration as I watched their skill and care of other patients as well as myself.
Since returning home I have received calls offering me aftercare with speech (not needed), possible aids in the house, and help with my balance. This was our NHS at its best. Well done and thank you.
So how much longer will all this last for us? It is increasingly disturbing to read about cuts, yet more squeezes, and pressure put on doctors, nurses, therapists.
How much longer can hospitals maintain their standards under this continuous assault?
