I HAVE read that we could have another statue of a Hereford bull erected in the Old Market (Second bull sculpture set to charge into the city, Hereford Times, August 27).
What a splendid idea, but please could we have a true Hereford look-a-like this time, ie deep brown body, white face, brisket, belly, and of course, horns?
The past breeders of the world-famous breed names, such as Vern, Haven and Freetown, would turn in their graves if they saw a black bull with a black face and no horns being passed off as a Hereford.
Imagine an American, Australian or South American cattle rancher visiting Hereford, the home of the ‘white face’, seeing that Welsh Black in High Town.
They would take their leave and jump on the first plane home to see proper Herefords. If we are going to do something, let’s get it right for a change.
