AUGUST has arrived and so have the hedge-trimmers. Today, I received two thorn punctures to the front wheel of my bicycle on the lane between Wellington and Westhope.

I realise that hedge-trimmers have a job to do, but is it unreasonable to ask them to sweep away their mess, promptly and efficiently?

Hawthorn and blackthorn puncture car tyres as much as bicycles; this annual nuisance is a danger and ann-oyance to all county road users.

On one occasion last year I received four punctures on a 300m stretch of the same road. Enough!
