HAVE Herefordshire Council sunk to an all-time low? I didn’t think it was possible, but here we have it in black and white (Free evening parking for Three Choirs Festival, Hereford Times, July 23).

All year round the residents of our city who pay their council tax have to pay to park for an evening in Hereford just to go out for a meal and try to help the local economy, while our councillors drain even more money from an already bankrupt account.

This, of course, is due to the millions that they have spent unwisely. Just look at the elaborate entrance that was built to make it more attractive for them in Plough Lane, along with the new toilets and showers etc, the original ones being fine for the previous occupants anyway.

I strongly object to paying to park at any time. If the council provided plenty of decent free parking, then more people would use our city to shop. Not to mention the overzealous parking magpies, waiting to swoop if you go over by a minute.

Giving out ‘freebie parking’ to visitors after 6pm just for the Three Choirs Festival is a disgrace and will only be justified by allowing it to continue for the locals who pay their taxes all year round.
