I SUPPORT Richard Stones’ letter in your issue of July 2 (Absurd claim SC2 will cut congestion).

The SC2 is a total waste of taxpayers’ money. It will achieve nothing but further congestion on the A49 (Ross Road) at its approach to Belmont roundabout where there are frequently tailbacks of over half-a-mile.

Furthermore it will spoil a beautiful approach to Hereford from the south, causing much environmental damage, and loss of top quality agricultural land.

Do we really want a lot of development, whether residential or otherwise, south of the city? Any development should be on the west of the city off the Brecon road which has good direct access to the city. Any development south of the city will cause further bottlenecks on the Belmont roundabout and huge tailbacks.

Come on Hereford councillors, take the bull by the horns and further extend the Rotherwas relief road with a proper bypass which is something needed to take much traffic out of the city.

What does the loss of a few wildlife plants and poorer land on the Lugg Meadows matter, having regard to the great benefit a bypass will bring to the city and such relief and time-saving to motorists.

Councillors, you should be ashamed of yourselves in not urgently seeking the construction of a bypass. The A49 is the major eastern route from north to south Wales and Hereford is the only town or city which has no bypass and is noted for its congestion.

Show some initiative and common sense.
