I CAME to Hereford for a long weekend with my partner and had a good day in town.

We had cycled there on our new bikes, chained them together to the D frames outside Costa Coffee in the Old Market shopping centre in full view of all the cameras, thinking they would be safe.

On our return we found my bike missing. The lock had been removed from both bikes, then put around my partner’s bike which had then been propped against the D frame.

We then found out from security staff, who were very helpful, that none of the cameras were pointing at the designated bike parking area, even though we were told they do have a bike theft problem in the town.

My bike was bought for me as therapy as in the last two years I have had a stroke, was involved in a road traffic accident and ended up in hospital undergoing neuro-surgery. More recently I have undergone a knee operation so the bike was to try and help me get well again.

Surely this is no way to treat your visitors.
