I AGREE with Shona Baxandall (Share bike routes with give and take, Letters, April 23) that marked lanes on cycle/pedestrian routes would improve safety, though some are not really wide enough.
However, many cyclists give no warning at all, some give a little tinkle on a bell at the last moment and some whizz past before we are aware of them. My husband and I have even been accused of walking in the middle of the lane, but we are not going to walk in single file.
Ring your bell (every cyclist should have one) in good time and remember that some people, like my husband, have hearing which is less than perfect and just appreciate we may even be talking to each other. We will gladly move over if given fair warning.
