PEOPLE of Herefordshire and the Welsh border, fear not – wind turbines are not a threat.

We have just returned from a week in north Cornwall where we could see 20 or more wind turbines at any one time.

I made enquiries of locals and visitors, and discovered that, once erected, the turbines have no impact on crops or livestock. No records of birds of prey being killed were known of (they are too clever, I’m told), and no reduction in tourists had been observed.

I was told that one bed and breakfast establishment close to a wind farm had actually had bookings from people who wanted to see and photograph the turbines. As for the noise, I gather it only takes a short time to become accustomed to it, the way it does a railway line.

Of course, like everyone else the turbines are loved and hated for many reasons, but we can rest assured that they will become part of everyone’s life eventually and our dear country will be no worse off than it is now.
