I WOULD like to reiterate our apologies to your reader Mrs Langdon Mead, who had been receiving letters from TV Licensing when she already has a TV Licence (TV licensing letter incenses pensioner, Hereford Times, February 5).
However, I would like to clarify it is not correct to say TV Licensing has been forced to pay £100,000 in fines for mistakes such as these.
As is common practice, in a small number of cases, we have offered customers a goodwill payment. The £100,000 figure refers to goodwill payments made over a six-year period for all types of complaints made to TV Licensing.
We take any complaint very seriously, and when mistakes happen we try to correct them as quickly as possible. We have reduced complaints by half since 2008-09.
MARK WHITEHOUSE TV Licensing, Birmingham
