IN reply to Chris Grover (IAM and the A49, Letters, January 15), I do not recall claiming the council had any control over the A49. This is not to say they ought not act as our advocate with higher powers.

It is not that I am uncertain as to the standing of the IAM. I have already had private letters of admonition and rebuke for an unseemly lack of deference. I feel quite chastened.

Also, I do not understand how he can at first claim the road is safe, and concede that it needs careful driving in the next breath.

Very sadly, three more accidents have occurred since this correspondence started, one very serious with the road being closed for some time.
