I WRITE regarding the unhealthy prospect of the new road SC2 passing to the west of Hereford.
For 90% of the time the winds blow from the south west or south. If cars or, more importantly, heavy vehicles are encouraged to use this road it will have a devastating effect on air quality in Hereford city with its narrow little streets trapping the petrol and, more harmful, diesel fumes.
It is about 2.5 miles across the Lugg Meadows taking traffic from Rotherwas to the major towns and cities to the east plus the motorway connections, but with one sizeable town to the west – Brecon.
The route west will be about 14 miles from the industrial estate to connect with the Roman Road. So the east is a far more economical route.
The land to the west on both sides of the River Wye is Grade One farming land for growing crops that we all eat and supply to the rest of the county and Britain.
