As a retailer in Widemarsh Street we write with some concerns and questions about The Old Market development and Hereford City Centre. Whereas we recognise that these are not issues that you can respond to we hope that you can perhaps publish the letter in hope of other people commenting and possibly answering.
We have always been led to believe that the new development, The Old Market, was a way and means of opening up Hereford as a shopping destination for the new development and Hereford City centre. Why therefore:
1. Has The Old Market been allowed to have a different day to that of the City Centre for the switching on the Christmas lights in their vicinity
2. Has Mr. Peter Townsend of The Old Market rejected any offerings for presenting within The Old Market details of shops within the City Centre but Debenhams have been allowed to have a stand in Widemarsh Street (outside The Wellington pub) trying to attract shoppers to their store
3. Is there greater street cleaning in and around The Old Market than that of the City Centre
Simple questions we believe but it looks like that there appears to be an us and them situation arising. Surely, it should be one City, one destination and all working together.
