MAY I reassure readers who might have believed Steve Lloyd's suggestion (Let's try to open doors, Letters October 16) the council is "using the trow as a short-term PR tool".

While 'The Hereford Bull' – the replica of the 18th/19th century Wye trow – was indeed moved from a temporary mooring in Bishop's Pool to the safety of Gloucester Docks in September, this had nothing to do with the council.

It was all to do with the half-a-dozen individuals who give their own time, energy and money to the trow, and they have taken care that it will not be wrecked when the river floods this winter.

Funded entirely by private donations under the auspices of the Herefordshire Community Foundation, the trow will come back to Hereford and its home on the Wye next year.

It will be used again by the Sea Cadets and others and, we plan, by disadvantaged groups when a bid to build a jetty succeeds. The jetty will be equipped with special access and it will also be able to cope with spate river levels.

Any help will be very much appreciated and readers can contact wyetrowherefordbull@gmail.com for more details.
