AMBER2000 calls for a referendum of Leominster residents on the supermarket applications (Online Comment, October 2) but this is in Amber2000’s own hands.

Under the Local Government Act of 1972, any 10 people can hold a meeting and call for a parish poll, which the parish or town council has to organise.

We organised such a poll in Ledbury a few years ago, to demonstrate the strength of local feeling against planning approval for a new retirement home, involving the destruction of a row of trees which contributed much to the tranquillity of the recreation ground.
