WOULD the member of the council who first suggested that, in order to cut costs, public conveniences in Herefordshire should be closed please write to this paper and advise us of the reasons behind the idea that this would benefit the community.

I am sure that the idea came from one individual and when it was presented to council members they managed to persuade others that this was a great way to save money. The meetings that reviewed the suggestion must have been minuted so perhaps the minutes could be published for the public to read.

I have yet to meet anyone that agrees with the decision and I feel extremely strongly that the decision should be reversed.

My wife and I have just returned from a very good short break by coach in the Cotswolds.

We visited Stratford-on-Avon, Bourton-on-the-Water, Stow-on-the-Wold and Broadway and at each place where the coach stopped there were good clean loos at a cost of 20p per person and many on the coach trip used them at each stop.

As a city that needs tourists surely we should look after them.

We are failing in so many areas to make Hereford attractive with empty shops, dirty unkempt streets and potholes throughout the county. The decision to close public loos is the last straw.

Please, please, please wiill someone from the council who is in anyway responsible for this decision and has the strength of character to admit it, answer this letter?
