POPULAR Irishman Eddie Mahon lives with his family in Credenhill.

Eddie is taking part in a sponsored bicycle ride from London to Paris over the spring bank holiday at the end of May.

The purpose is to raise funds for a charity called the U Foundation set up to raise funds for children in Zambia, helping them to become self sufficient.

Eddie, who does not usually ride a bike, is taking on quite a challenge (approximately 600 miles ) and is trying to raise as much money as possible.

He is organising a charity fun quiz night at Credenhill Social Club on Saturday to raise sponsorship money.

Eddie and his cause would benefit from some publicity as I am sure every one appreciates those who are willing to put themselves out and achieve something on behalf of others.

Eddie can be sponsored at http://uk.virginmoneygiving.com/ EddiebikestoParis.

The charity was set up to help children in Zambia who have had very little in their lives and just ask for some help to a life outside of poverty and despair.

So far the U Foundation has built an orphanage, school and nursery in villages no bigger than our own.

They have also built up a small farm where children and their parents can learn the basics of crop management and keeping animals like chickens and goats which can help provide food for the entire village. Their website can give you a better idea of what they do and why at theufoundation.org/index.html.
