A BUSINESS in Ledbury whose hopes to relocate were thwarted when planners refused a proposal to build a Sainsbury's superstore in the town has pressed on with its plans.

Galebreaker has registered a planning application with Herefordshire Council to move from its current premises on the New Mills Industrial Estate to a new purpose-built site off Bromyard Road.

The company, which produces agricultural building weather screens, was originally due to relocate as part of a deal which would have seen Sainsbury's build a 30,000 sq ft superstore.

But Herefordshire Council refused the application at a meeting last month.

Company bosses say the move will allow them to secure jobs and create new ones by doubling their growth over the next five years.

Jeremy Scudamore, Galebreaker’s Managing Director, said: “Despite the disappointing refusal of the Sainsbury’s application, we are continuing to progress with our relocation application”.

“Our public consultation last year showed that 94 percent of respondents supported all or some of our relocation plans, and I would urge them to reinforce that support.”

“Approval of the plans would take us a step closer towards staying and growing in Ledbury.”
