SPRING is not so very far away, despite chilly weather, and organisers of the annual Kempley and Oxenhall Daffodil Weekend have already announced dates and details for this year's events.

A spokesman said: "Visitors can expect a wide range of activities.

"The programme includes two major weekend events with organised walks, trips on the Daff and Ride bus, luscious daffodil lunches and teas and exhibitions in the local churches. Free parking is available at the local venues"

The area around Kempley, Oxenhall and Dymock is known as The Golden Triangle, because of the wild daffodil fields.

Before railway cuts of the 1960s, the line through Dymock was known as "The Daffodil Line" because it carried consignments of daffodils to hospitals in Birmingham and London, to help cheer up the patients.

For Kempley, the village hall will be the focus on March 18 and March 19 from 10.30 am to 5pm both days.

There will be homemade refreshments, soup, ploughman’s lunches, rolls and cakes until 4.30pm

A highlight will be free guided walks to see the wild daffodils.

At St Edward's Church, there will be free scarecrow competition and exhibition, and St Mary's Church will also be open, so visitors can view to view the medieval frescoes and wall paintings.

St Anne's Church and the village hall will be the centre of the Oxenhall Daffodil Weekend, on April 8 and April 9.

Free coffee and biscuits available in St Anne's church from 10.30am to noon both days.

There will be homemade refreshments, ploughman’s lunches and pasties on offer both days, from noon to 4.30pm, and there will also be plant and white elephant stalls and bottle tombola

Gloucestershire Wildlife Trust Reserves have organised walks for both days.
