LEDBURY'S Evergreen Club for pensioners will celebrate it 60th birthday next year, but members got into the party mood recently with a celebration to mark the group's 59th anniversary.
The club, "which provides entertainment and social activities for the mature residents of Ledbury Town" held the party at Ledbury’s St Michael’s Homes, Church Street.
Ledbury Rotary Club spokesman, Jan Long said: "A traditional “high tea” of delicious cakes, crustless posh sandwiches and other goodies was served by Rotarians acting as waiters, and this was followed by entertainment by Rick James, an excellent vocalist and musician who played popular melodies.
"Rick handed the microphone to guests encouraging them to singalong and John Robson, whose deep baritone voice proved a hit and was applauded by everyone. Barbara Langlois, Manager of the Evergreen Club, said it had been a merry afternoon and a joy to see so many of our elderly residents enjoying themselves."
Ledbury Rotary President, Bernie Robertson said: “Our ethos of helping the local community is demonstrated by activities such as Evergreen and our commitment to the area, and next year the Evergreen Club will celebrate 60 years since its inception. A very special party is being planned with a diamond theme.”
